Theodore Tellip Sr., 86, of Scott Twp., died Thursday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center, VNA Hospice and Care Unit, Scranton. His widow is the former Regina "Jean" Secora.
Born and raised in Scott Twp., son of the late Jacob and Mary Mozeliak Tellip, he attended and graduated from Scott Twp. High School. After graduating, Ted joined the Army, and served in the Korean War in the 45th Division. After returning home, he attended Johnson School of Technology to become a machinist. Before retiring in 1990, he worked for PennDOT as a permit officer in Pike, Wyoming and Susquehanna counties. Throughout Ted's life, he made an impact on the community with his dedication to the Scott Hose Volunteer Fire Company as a lifetime member. He joined the company in 1949 at age 21, and served in several, if not all, of the positions there. He served as director of the Trustee Board from 1958-59 and the Fire Police, first assistant chief from 1960-68, vice president from 1969, 1982-83 and 2000-2001, fire chief from 1970-77, second assistant chief from 1978-81 and president from 1984-1997. Just recently, he was honored by the Pennsylvania Resolution Association for his many years of service as a volunteer firefighter. He was a lifetime member of the Shopa-Davy VFW Post 6082, Peckville, the Pinnacle Club, St. John Vienney Parish/Corpus Christi Church and the PennDOT retiree club. He was a past member of the planning commission of Scott Twp.
Ted always had a smile for those he met. He loved his card games and especially Pinnacle with his club. He loved baseball, and was active in the Scott Twp. Softball Association years ago. He loved his family, and was a big Eagles fan.
He is survived by two sons, Theodore "Teddy"Jr., Scott Twp.; and Gregory "Jake" and wife, Mary, Scott Twp.; three grandchildren, Trevor Tellip and Samantha and Jacqueline Tellip, all of Scott Twp.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary; an infant grandson, T.J. Tellip; a brother, Stephen; and sisters, Lillian Kuiper, Dorothy Tellip and Rose Malek.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Drs. Kondash, Kareha and Robertson and the nurses and staff at both the Traditional Home Health and Hospice and the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Scott Twp. Hose Company, with Mass at 10 a.m. at the Corpus Christi Church, St. John Vienney Parish, Montdale.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Scott Twp. Hose Company.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to either the Scott Twp. Hose Company or the American Fallen Soldiers Fund, two organizations that were close to Ted's heart.
